Raw biochar is not a fertilizer, and applying it uncharged can make a soil temporarily worse by adsorbing the nutrients already there. Biochar Plus is pre-charged with compost and humic acid so it arrives loaded rather than hungry.
What it does is structural. The pore network holds water and gives soil biology somewhere to live, which matters most on the sandy and compacted ground that dries out fastest in a Northwest August. Carbon applied this way also stays put for a long time, which is the part that interests growers thinking past the current season.
